48 Hours in New York City and The Hotel Sofitel New York
At night, the streets of New York really come alive and walking through Manhattan after dinner is one of our favorite things to do in the city. When we left Eataly, we were entertained by hundreds of New Yorkers lining up in the middle of 23rd Street to take pictures of the Manhattan Summer Solstice, often referred to as Manhattanhenge. This is when the brilliant orange-red setting sun aligns with the streets of New York City, much like Stonehenge in the United Kingdom aligns with the celestial calendar. This particular solstice was even more dramatic as a Super Moon aligned 180 degrees in the other direction. The New York drivers were not as interested in the celestial coincidence as much as those snapping pictures with their smartphones. Of course, we also had to join in on the moment and capture a picture of this rare occurrence.
On this, our second and last evening in New York, we returned to The Sofitel where we relaxed and enjoyed a nightcap at Gaby’s, the hotel’s bar and French inspired restaurant. At the end of a long day, it is a pleasure to return to your hotel room, open the drapes, and admire the bright lights of the big city.
For such a brief trip, this was a truly memorable one: we dined at the famous culinary destination, The James Beard House; Mr. B relived food memories at some of New York’s well-known restaurants that he frequented when he lived there; we enjoyed lunch at a Daniel Boulud restaurant; visited the September 11 Memorial & Museum; and stayed at the beautiful French inspired Hotel Sofitel New York. I guess that’s where the expression “New York Minute” comes from.

What a great way to spend 48 hours in NY! Especially dinner at the James Beard House.
Yes, it was a great way to spend a short time in NYC. Our dinner at the Beard House with Chef Lamas was incredible and it was nice to finally make it there for an event.
